About PetMath
PetMath answers the everyday math questions of dog and cat owners — in seconds, in plain English, and without asking for anything in return.
PetMath started with questions every pet owner ends up Googling at 10 pm: "How old is my dog really?", "My 40 lb dog ate a chocolate chip cookie — is that bad?", "How much should I actually be feeding my cat?" The answers exist, but they are scattered across veterinary manuals, breeder forums, and decade-old articles that contradict each other.
So we built calculators instead of articles-first answers. Each tool uses a formula or threshold published by a recognized veterinary source — size-adjusted age curves, published theobromine toxicity thresholds, and standard resting-energy equations — and each page shows exactly how the math works so you can judge the assumptions for yourself.
We are pet people, not veterinarians. When a question needs a professional, our tools say so — loudly. Nothing here replaces a relationship with a good vet.
What makes PetMath different
- Your numbers never leave your browser. Every calculator on PetMath runs entirely on your device. We never see, store, or transmit the figures you enter — there are no accounts and no server-side processing of your inputs.
- Published methodology. Each calculator page explains the exact formula it uses and the assumptions behind it, so you can check our work or reproduce it in a spreadsheet.
- Free, forever, without a paywall. PetMath is supported by advertising. There is no premium tier, no email gate, and no upsell.
